Culturally-Sensitive support enables Remarkable Recovery

Culturally-Sensitive Support driving recovery

Person-centered, Culturally-Sensitive Care

Challenge
Mrs GK arrived extremely frail, weighing just 43 kg, unable to sit upright or engage in daily activities. She declined all food and drinks, and her family believed she had “given up.”

Solution
Our team responded with patience and personalised care. When traditional supplements failed, we introduced lassi — a culturally familiar comfort — and kept mealtimes simple and pressure-free. Hourly hydration, gentle encouragement, and tailored nursing care helped rebuild her strength slowly and safely.

Outcome
Within weeks, Mrs GK began drinking regularly, then increased to four cups of lassi daily, and eventually regained enough strength to sit up, travel, and socially engage. Upon transferring to her preferred home in Pudsey, she joined others for lunch on her very first day — a huge milestone after months of isolation.By day two, she confidently requested chapati and sabzi, finishing her entire meal.

Her story highlights how personalised, culturally respectful care can restore health, dignity, and joy.

“Our mum has started eating again.

She had given up on life, but within weeks, the staff here have done their magic.

I never been happier when she started telling me off again,

just like old times, while eating her favourite pakora!” - Mrs GK’s Daughter-In-Law
